Julia J. King began her nursing career in 1979. She spent seven years on an
IV team in Plantation, Florida, two and a half years on an IV team in
Tallahassee, Florida, one year as a Surveillance Infection Control Nurse and
nine years as an IV team Coordinator in a hospital in Thomasville, Georgia.
Since September 2000, she has been a Vascular Access Nurse at Sinai Hospital in
Baltimore, Maryland. Julia obtained and has maintained her CRNI for the past
six years.
Julia authored “Practical IV Therapy” formerly published by Springhouse
Corporation and taught IV therapy training classes quarterly during the 9 years
as an IV Team Coordinator. Sharing intravenous knowledge and skills has been a
major focus of hers for many years and is being addressed as the chapter’s focus
during her term as President of Maryland’s Capitol Chapter of INS.
From May 2001 through April 2002, Julia sat on the subcommittee to prepare
the Declaratory ruling for the Maryland State Board of Nursing regarding
placement and care of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters.
“IV Therapy and the advancement of Infusion Nursing along with helping all
nurses provide safe IV care are my primary career focuses. I love IV Therapy
and vascular access. I plan to work in this area for the rest of my nursing career.”
