President 1998-2001
I have been an RN for twenty-six years,
spending the last twenty-two as part of the St. Agnes HealthCare IV Team. I
received my CRNI in 1996. I have been a part of drafting policies and procedures
for our institute regarding infusion therapy and specialty catheters. I educate
staff nurses about vascular access devices, their purpose, care and maintenance.
Our team takes part in piloting new infusion products and makes recommendations
for their use. Recently, I had the opportunity to work with many of my peers in
infusion therapy on a task force for the Maryland Board of Nursing regarding the
role of the RN in the insertion of PICCs. This was quite an awesome experience
to work with nurses from acute care, homecare and long term care facilities. I
have come away from this experience with the a broader view of what goes on
outside of an acute care setting and an increased respect for our specialty of
infusion therapy.
